Transformation begins within!
As we enter the 21st century, the time is upon us to understand our responsibility to the self. Let me be the first to tell you the only person you have the power to change is yourself. While it is compassionate to become a fixer of those around us, we must never lose site of the most important person: the self. Being compassionate towards others must begin with being compassionate towards the self.
It is imperative that we understand that constantly giving energy outside the body, while neglecting the self, slowly wears down the body and ultimately sets the stage for many illnesses. You are the creator of transformation and the sole person responsible for your expenditure of energy. While it may seem appropriate to constantly give, we must never forget to be in check with ourselves. If we neglect the self, we cannot set the stage for transformation.
Throughout my studies of both eastern and western approaches to health, I have found that in order to take full responsibility of our well-being, we must begin to listen to our hearts. Dr. Judith Orloff, MD uses the term intuition to best define the practice of listening to the heart:
|
Im definining intuition as a potent form of inner wisdom, not mediated by the rational mind. Accessible to us all, its a still, small voice inside. Its an unflinching truth teller committed to our well-being. You may experience intuition as a gut feeling, hunch, a physical sensation, a snapshot-like flash, or a dream. Always a friend, it keeps a vigilant eye on our bodies, letting us know if something is out of synch. We each possess an intuitive healing code within us that contains the blueprints for our health, happiness and survival of everything that is good here on earth. This code is written in a language of silence, metaphor, imagery, energy, and knowings that may seem alien until we are taught to decipher it. |
This inner wisdom or intuition differs for many people, but for the most part it is a feeling or sensation that occurs in your gut or heart region. It is a feeling that you possess when you know what you know, but may or may not be fully conscious of why you know. It is wisdom that we all possess, present at all times, that comes into play at the most important of times. For most of us, the wisdom lies in the solar plexus region. In ancient sanskrit, this area is called the fourth chakra, home to the ever so fragile heart. A chakra is an energetic center in the body displaying certain emotional, physical, and mental attributes.
Listening to and finding this inner wisdom takes discipline, training, patience, and a lot of time. No one ever said it was easy to shut our minds up and listen to your heart! A few things that may open the door to your inner power are as follows:
Diet
Eating a clean, natural whole foods diet will awaken your body to the subtleties needed to tap into your inner guide. click here for diet hints
Exercise
Any form of movement, whether its yoga, dance, or tennis, unleashes trapped energy that must be released in order to properly heal. Once energy is released you become closer to connecting to your true self.
Meditation
Meditation is the art of thinking of nothing. Being still, being quiet, and just being will help you to connect with the silent wisdom of the body. This is the most difficult of all. A teacher at my high school once asked me, Mary Kent, have you ever tried to think of nothing? I paused for a second and responded, Thats absoletly impossible. My teacher just grinned ear to ear and said, Try it some time. That was eleven years ago and I am still trying to master this one. Be still and you will know.
Love Spend your precious moments doing what you love. Spend a few moments each day loving your partner, your family, and most importantly, yourself. You can never tell someone too many times how much you love them!
Focus on your dream
We are all faced with situations that will attempt to distract us from our dreams. Do not give in to these distractions, as most of them are false realities. Remain clear, focused, and never lose sight of your dream.
Hopefully, these hints will start the process of your transformation. Let us know how your path evolves.
Love,
